Christmas?

I CANNOT believe that it is December and Christmas is a few weeks away.  Where did the time go?  What happened to October and November?  I know, it feels like that every year, but really!  So here we are, full-flung, into the season. It is so fun, though.  It snowed here overnight for the first time this year, and it is still snowing.  I love watching it from inside ONLY!  I really don’t care for being IN it.  And I really don’t mind having some hot chocolate while I’m looking out, either.

Getting the Christmas decorations out, getting the tree and decorating it, wrapping presents.  I love it.  We meant to cut down our own Christmas tree this year and even picked out the place we were going to go, but unfortunately we ran out of time!!  There was so much going on, that we couldn’t fit it in.  So on the way home from our church Christmas party on Saturday night, we stopped by and picked one up.  Russell and Trey (mostly Russell) were so excited to decorate it.  Friday night we went to a lighted carriage parade.  Despite the fact that it was so cold and windy that I couldn’t feel my hands (Russell and Trey didn’t seem to care), it was so fun.  There were about 30 carriages, big and small, pulled by teeny tiny ponies or giant horses.  People decorated their carriages with lights, garland, wreaths, bows, anything you can think of.  They put bells on the horses and some people played instruments or sang carols on their carriages.  We all loved it, and I think we’ll make it a tradition.

Okay, if you love Christmas music, but you are sick and tired of the radio playing Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas Darling by the Carpenters, or O Holy Night by everyone from Mariah Carey to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, then I have an idea for you.  (P.S. I like some of those songs, but not every hour all day long.)  Go to Pandora.com.  This website is so cool.  You type in an artist or song title and then it plays songs like that one for you.  You thumbs up or thumbs down the song to guide it in what it should play for you.  Here’s my suggestion: Type in Let it snow and choose the version by Michael Buble.  There you have it.  An awesome Christmas music station!  I love it.  Anyway, you can use the site when it’s not Christmas, too.  We use it for Sunday music or anytime music.

Oh, I almost forgot, one more great thing about Christmas:  Choosing what treats I get to make for friends and neighbors.  I look forward to it every year!  It is so fun, and I LOVE IT!

Oh yeah, sorry about all the pictures.  You can skip them if you want!  I just wanted to show some of the parade, of decorating the tree, and some of our finished product.  Also some of the railing that Russell did.  P.S. In that first picture you can see our new couch, well new to us, anyway.  For anyone who remembers our white sectional that we had in Utah,  Russell and the guys helping us move COULD NOT get it out of the basement, so sadly, we had to cut it in pieces to get it out.  I don’t know how Russell and our friend Jess got it in there, but I know they worked on it for a few hours.  It was a good couch and served us well!!  (Including almost having a baby on it.  My water broke on it.)  So since we got here to Ohio, we have been searching Craigs List regularly to find a replacement and a good deal.  We finally did find a great deal.  So here it is!

My, this post got long.  Sorry about that!!

Funny you should mention the couch! Besides the banister decorations which I noticed first, I thought to myself, I think that must be a new couch. It looks so super comfy! I love this time of year also, and it sounds like you are all enjoying it so much. We as kids must have really loved the banister being decorated, because so far I’ve decorated ours, the Brousseaus have decorated theirs, the Daines have decorated theirs, and now I see you have as well! Love traditions. And love you all!

We’re coming to Columbus on the 15th – are you going to be around? we’re coming down to watch my brother’s kids, but we’re going to come early in the a.m. to go to the temple. Would your family be available for lunch or something?!?! I’m dying to see you and meet your cute babies!!!
