I’m here…

Yes, contrary to popular belief, I have not fallen off of the face of the earth.  I am a little behind, but better late than never.  I was going to start my catch up posts with our fun New Year’s Eve party, but the pictures are on the laptop that is currently out of service (of course), so I may or may not post those later!  So, I will start with our sweet Russell who turned five this past week.  He is the most incredible little boy, and we are so lucky to have him in our family.  He has been looking forward to his birthday and tells everyone he sees, whether he knows them or not, that he is now five and not four.   Tuesday was his birthday, and we had fun making a birthday treat to take in to school to share with all of his friends.  We made chocolate dipped pretzels with sprinkles.  That day after school, he was so surprised to find presents when he arrived home.  I guess he hadn’t thought that he might get presents since it was his birthday.  Russell and I have really wanted to get him some action figures to play with since he likes to role play, but hadn’t been happy with any of the ones we found.  So we were lucky to find a huge lot of Rescue Heroes toys on Craigs List for only $25 back in November, and I mean huge.  Rescue Heroes is made by Fisher Price, and their mission is always to rescue people.  But since Russell had never heard of Rescue Heroes we stealthily started showing him some Rescue Heroes movies from the library, and what do you know, that’s what he wants for his birthday!  The night of his birthday we had his birthday dinner, which by his request was frozen cheese pizza, chocolate milk, and apples.  So easy to please!!    Later in the week, he received some birthday money from Russell’s grandparents and was so excited to finally buy a real football, since he’s been running around the house playing football by himself and using Keyan’s toy rings as his football.  He was so sweet to use his birthday money to buy Trey one, too.  So, now choruses of “Blue 23… set… hike!!” ring out through the house all day.  It’s very fun!  His birthday week ended with a birthday party on Saturday.  We missed all the cousins we are used to having at the party, but we are very lucky to have made some good friends here that we could invite.  We started out the party with a fun bean bag toss followed by a treasure hunt. (If this sounds familiar to any of you Utah cousins, that’s because we did the same exact thing this year as last year!)  The treasure they found was some cute wooden race car kits that they all got to build and decorate.  Then we finished with cake and ice cream.  It was a great time, and we were so happy to celebrate Russell.  He brings such life and happiness to our family!  After cleaning up the party and having dinner, etc, etc, we all snuggled up for family movie night and watched Ratatouille.  I love my boys!  So this morning we woke up to ice coated windows that were frozen shut and a projected high temperature of 14 degrees.  Talk about cold… Not my idea of fun.  Well, here are some pictures.  We’re looking forward to a day off from school for everyone tomorrow!

Rescue Heroes!  (That’s Billy Blazes, just in case you were curious.)
This bean bag toss was created by Dad.  I think he had more fun making it than the kids had playing with it. I don’t know if you can tell that the holes for the bean bags are Chick Hicks (green), Doc Hudson (blue), and DJ (the top blue).  These cars are on hinges, so they swing back after the bean bag goes through, and the whole thing is mounted on wood.  At least it will last the boys a while!
Here are the kids working on their race cars.

This cake was a labor of love.  It was on the back cover of my July issue of Taste of Home, and ever since he saw it, he kept asking for it for his birthday.  Although, I can’t lie… I really did have fun making it!!
The kids had fun choosing which part of the cake they wanted to eat.
