Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy Birthday to my sweet sister, Abby, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day (a little late).  We had a fun day.  I found a cute Veggie Tales video on youtube that explains the reason we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day to show the boys.  I was going to put a link here for it, but it has been taken off because of copyright reasons.  It was really fun to learn about the history, though!  Then I found a cute little story about the legend of the leprechauns (you can read it by going here: http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/feature/famf39stpatday/famf39stpatday.html).  So, after reading the legend to the boys, they got to decorate their own boxes (according to the legend) to put on their  windowsills for the leprechauns before they went to bed.  When they woke up, there was a trail of shamrocks they had to follow that led them to their boxes which were filled with their treasures.  It was so fun to here Russell wake up and yell “It’s St. Patrick’s Day!”  They had such fun decorating their boxes, and it was a fun tradition to make.  We also made shamrock cookies and decorated them with green frosting and green sprinkles.  It was a great day.

Here they are with their boxes.  P.S. If you’ve ever wondered why Trey’s pajamas are always unzipped in the pictures, it’s because he plays with his belly button…

What a great idea to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – I think we are going to steal it too 🙂 Hope you don’t mind. I just think it is so important to make every day (especially holidays) special when your children are young so they can have traditions to carry on with their families some day. You guys do a great job of that.

I knew something of the history of St. Patrick’s Day…but had never, ever heard about the boxes, shamrocks and treasures. I’m definitely going to give that a try next year!! Love, mom

You are such a fun Mom! Those are great ideas for St. Patrick’s day. Coincidentally, we accidently checked out that Veggie tale DVD from the library the day after St. Pat’s day, so I thought that was cool.
