More sleeping woes

Well, we WERE making progress in the sleeping department, until Keyan learned to stand.  Unfortunately he did not learn how to get back down once he stands in his crib.  So he stands there crying until I come or until he falls, whichever comes first…   Usually the falling.  So, now I put him in bed, he doesn’t want to be there, so he stands up and cries at the door hoping I’ll come back.  Eventually he falls and will go to sleep.  Then if he wakes up before naptime or the night is over, he doesn’t go back to sleep like he used to.  Instead he stands and cries waiting for me to come get him.  This is especially fun at nighttime, right about 2:30 am.  He was awake in there for about an hour before he fell from standing and finally went back to sleep.  So the daytime is also especially fun, because he is overly tired, and everyone knows how much fun an overly tired baby is!

ALSO, when we were having visitors last month, we bought a few extra pillows for them to use.  We decided to try them out since they were nice down pillows from Costco and seemed very comfortable.  Well, the next few nights we both woke up with really sore necks and shoulders.  Since these “great pillows from Costco” didn’t do the trick, we decided to go back to our trusty old pillows.  Except, Russell had thought it was a good idea to wash the pillows we had been using (which it was a great idea, but the pillows lost their former shape).   calvinhobbes_sleep01.jpgWe went back to our old pillows, which also are now making our necks and backs sore.  We now have 8 different pillows and are trying to figure out which pillow or combination of pillows will not make us sore.  Unfortunately it has been a month of sore necks and shoulders.  All we want is a good night’s rest…is that too much to ask?   Must Have Sleep!!!

I have an idea. . . pile all the too fluffy pillows on the floor and let the boys run and then land in them. After a few sessions of this, maybe they might defluff a little. . . one could hope. I’m trying to prepare myself for nights of interrupted sleep again. Just when it finally gets good, too. I feel your pain, Jack, I really do.

I had been having problems with Glade sleeping the last while too. I tried reading the Baby Whisperer book and it seems to have helped a lot. He has started sleeping through the night and taking better naps now. Anyway, ask me next time you see me or call me up if you want the details on what I did with him. It was really pretty easy. Good luck. I know what a pain it is to have a baby that doesn’t want to sleep!

Washing pillows…what a novel idea. After sleeping through the night successfully for two months, Alora is waking up for no reason at all some nights. It’s okay, though. I usually send Nate to go take care of her on those nights ;).

My Mom always wanted to sleep with her old flat pillow, and she would even bring it with her on trips. I never understood it until recently. The pillows that you’ve had for awhile really do become more comfortable. Now, I’m totally a flat pillow enthusiast. I’m sorry you’ve had so much interrupted sleep recently. That really can kill you! It is amazing how persistent little kids can be. I think I could only cry for five, ten minutes tops before I gave up and went to sleep.

I had quite a laugh (sympathetic, I assure you; really…whew…really)!! Trust me…these seeming long days of sleep deprivation really will pass…and they are so worth it… I truly enjoyed the pillow dilemma….and feel somewhat responsible since I thoroughly enjoyed my new Costco pillow when I visited…sorry but thank you for the comfort…you are so sweet!! Love, mom
