Our weekend

For some reason, Russell and Trey have been looking forward to watching conference for the last couple weeks.  (Conference happens twice a year and is a chance to hear guidance and counsel from our prophet and church leaders.)  They sat through the four sessions and drew pictures and amazingly enough listened!  Yes, I bribe them with treats and lots of them.  That’s one thing they know they can look forward to during conference weekend:  lots of treats that they don’t normally have.  One thing I did this year was print off a conference bingo sheet that had pictures of all kinds of things from prophet to missionaries to family, etc.  Instead of using it to play bingo, we told Russell and Trey that every time they heard the speaker talk about something on the sheet, they could have a hershey kiss.  It actually worked a little too well.  Russell listened a lot better than I expected and ended up getting so many hershey kisses in the first half hour, that he was sick of the chocolate.  He quit wanting any kisses but kept hearing the words from his sheet.  Then he used his bingo sheet to draw pictures and practice writing, and it occupied him for the whole time.  AWESOME!  (In the pic with me and Russell, he is doing the spiderman thing with his hand.  Something he picked up from one of his friends…)

The other part of my weekend was spent making this cake.  Last year throughout the year I made birthday cakes for the members of Russell’s program at OSU.  This year it was requested that I make one for one of his groups.  I saw this one in Lady’s Home Journal (no, I am not creative enough to come up with things on my own, so I borrow creativity).  Unfortunately, I don’t get to try any, but at least it was fun to do.

Jackie, very good looking cake I am very impressed with all the details you do on your creativeness. JUST wonderful. I love looking at magazines to get ideas, I have collected all the Halloween magazines, I just love them!

Great job, I wish I would have had a bingo sheet!

I hope our little Jack is half as good as your boys when he gets a little older. That’s great about the conference bingo chocolate thing, I’ll have to log that away for a later date. Your cake looks fabulous too!

I swear you are the best homemaker in the world. You are also super mom. I really need to talk to you to see how you do it. I’ll get your phone number from Spencer and call you sometime this week. Talk to you later!

I am teaching a lesson on the Priesthood in Sunday School next week. From that perspective, couldn’t help but marvel at; first, the concept of a mom teaching her boys reverance for the Priesthood and its workings; and, secondly, after seeing the photos and the boys sweet countenances…the REALITY of same. Jackie, you shall someday be surrounded by men of the Priesthood in all of its power and glory…then, as now, you shall know that it was all worth it!! Love, mom

    PS…GREAT CAKE!

    Jackie,

You LOOK GREAT! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, think of that BEAUTIFUL daughter of our Father in Heaven’s growing inside of you. I have to admit, I REALLY miss being pregnant! I know it was 13 years ago, but I LOVED feeling Tiani move inside me. After I had her, I really missed having that feeling. Hang in there, before you know it, she’ll be here safe and sound and you can move on to the next stage in your family’s life.
